The Queen makes Vogue's most glamourous list

The Queen makes Vogue's most glamourous list - Womens Style

Despite being more than double the age of Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, the Queen has been named alongside such supermodels as one of the world's most glamorous women.

Vogue has praised Queen Elizabeth for her impeccable style and placed her in its Definitive List of Today's Glamorous Women.

She appears among the names of more than fifty women, including the models Claudia Schiffer, Sophie Dahl and Daisy Lowe.

In praise of the Queen, who on December 22 becomes the oldest-ever reigning monarch of Britain, the December issue of Vogue admires her ability to wear practical outdoor clothing with the same stylish flourish that she displays with gowns and crowns.

Emphasising that "glamour is about how you wear something, not about what you wear", Vogue adds that even Agyness Deyn, the model of the moment, has commented of the 81-year-old monarch, "She's cool".

The Queen is renowned for prefering conservative but often brightly coloured ensembles for her public appearances, accessorised with sensible shoes and handbags, the magazine comments, and adds: "You can't buy glamour, and you can't fake it. But unlike beauty, it's not something you are born with, though it comes more naturally to some than others."

Only a few years ago Kate Moss, 33, was reported to have told the monarch during a Buckingham Palace party: "I love the stuff you wear. You have great fashion sense."

Actresses listed include Dame Helen Mirren, Vanessa Redgrave, Rosamund Pike and Charlotte Rampling. Other names to win a place on the list include Jemima Khan, Zadie Smith, the author, Zaha Hadid, the architect, Sam Taylor-Wood, the artist, and Tamara Mellon, founder of Jimmy Choo.

The Queen is no stranger to praise for her dress sense, even from the French media. She was given a glowing endorsement by L'Express magazine in 2002, which enthused over her floral dresses and "crazy hats", adding that she "holds top place in the kingdom of 21st-century icons".

On a trip to Milan in 2000 Miuccia Prada, whose accessories are worn by celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, declared that the Queen was "one of the most elegant women in the world".
